It is possible to fly without motors, but not without knowledge and skill.
~ Wilbur Wright
How apropos is this quote to the state of today’s workforce needs? Employers continue to face a disconnect between the ability to grow their organizations and the need for finding a skilled labor force. The overall workforce development system is making strides to help remedy or, at least, relieve the problem. In 2012, Governor Kasich created in Ohio the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation (OWT). The mission is a plan of reform:
To grow Ohio’s economy by developing a skilled and productive workforce, promoting effective training programs, and connecting Ohio employers with qualified workers.
For additional information on this plan and the strategies surrounding it refer to Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation: A Plan to Reform Ohio’s Workforce System. As part of this initiative, Ohio will soon be celebrating IN-DEMAND JOBS WEEK (May 7 – 11, 2018). To quote directly from the OWT’s website:
In-Demand Jobs Week is a statewide celebration of jobs, industries, and skills that are in-demand in Ohio. Business, education, and community leaders statewide have partnered to plan more than 120 events to inspire students and job seekers about local careers.
Want to celebrate or participate in an event around In-Demand Jobs Week? To learn more go to www.workforce.ohio.gov.
The first step to any solution is taking action and starting somewhere. Help the workforce of Ohio build the knowledge and skill referenced by our own historic success story, Wilbur Wright. The students and job seekers of today are our workforce of tomorrow who will help us all fly to long-term and sustainable economic growth.
