This one day course will serve as an overview of the CIT 40 hour basic course, and the OPOTA 24 hour basic curriculum. Students will review the basic de-escalation techniques, with an emphasis on Special Populations. This course will increase the probability of Officer and Subject safety, by learning and practicing through scenarios, techniques for interacting with special populations, and those persons in crisis.
Emphasis will be placed on the following topics: PTSD, Suicide, Special Populations in Mental Health, Dementia, Community Resources, Mental Health Medications - resources, ORC 5122.10, Excited Delirium and Autism.
Students will participate in at least two scenario based training exercises to sharpen their skills and abilities, with constructive feedback from the monitoring instructors.
