Certified Fiber Optic Technician Training

Location: Sinclair Centerville Campus, 5800 Clyo Rd., Centerville, OH 45459

This course will train participants in the inner workings of fiber optics, fusion splicer and other tool basics, and the various methods of splicing, terminating and testing fiber optic cable.

STUDENTS WILL LEARN:

  • The inner workings of fiber optic and how to efficiently deliver it to the end user
  • How to test equipment, distinguish cables, and clean fiber optic ports
  • Fusion splicer basics, cleaving tool use and safety as well as proper disposal of shards
  • Optical Loss Test Set (OLTS) training on both SM and MM fiber cable structures
  • Training and use of the fiber scope including safety and proper handling
  • Optimal Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) training and use and more!

At the end of the course, students will take the FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician certification exam.

Class will meet in-person once a week from 5pm-9pm for hands-on labs, and students will be expected to complete online learning assignments in between sessions.
